Among the volumes recovered from the boxes, a notable collection belonged to Giacinto Pacchiotti, a prominent Turin physician.
This collection comprised 516 volumes, totaling about 1570 works published between the 17th and 19th centuries. Pacchiotti (1820-1893) held various prestigious positions, including professor of Surgical Pathology at the University of Turin and Senator of the Kingdom of Italy.
His collection, donated to the University National Library of Turin after his death, contains valuable and rare titles from Italy and Europe.
The collection encompasses a wide range of medical topics, from ophthalmology to childbirth, as well as miscellaneous thesis papers. Pacchiotti acquired the initial part of the collection from the Gallo family in Cuneo, who were doctors for three generations, and expanded it over his lifetime. Through the signatures on the volumes’ spines, the original arrangement of the collection was reconstructed, allowing it to be displayed as Pacchiotti had organized it in his libraries.
