Preventive conservation and digital restoration for works on paper

The role of digital technologies in the conservation and restoration of library, archival, and documentary heritage: this is the theme at the center of the conference that will take place on February 19 and 20, 2026.

A precious opportunity for discussion between Institutions of the Ministry of Culture and Institutes of national and international importance in the sector, engaged daily in the challenge of integrating digital technologies with activities related to traditional practices of prevention, reconnaissance, maintenance, and restoration of paper goods.

The objective is to share case studies and promote the development of procedures that can satisfy the needs of works on paper, both in terms of their material conservation and in relation to their testimonial value. Guided tours of the restoration laboratories are also scheduled, enriched by specialist interventions in line with the theme of the initiative.

The initiative is organized by the National University Library of Turin, the Archival and Bibliographical Superintendence of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta, and the State Archives of Turin in collaboration with the Conservation and Restoration Center ‘La Venaria Reale’, ANAI-Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta Section, and the Historical Archives and Cultural Heritage-Waldensian Board, and with the contribution of the 1563 Foundation.
