The room houses the permanent exhibition The Sovereign Reader and preserves volumes from Queen Margaret’s personal library. The title refers to Alan Bennet’s 2007 novel of the same name, in which he recounts Queen Elizabeth’s passion for reading, an insatiable bibliophilia that she shares with Margaret.
The Queen’s personal library reflects the modernity of her cultural interests, philanthropic commitment, focus on public education, and her many passions.
The permanent exhibit can be enjoyed by walking among the bookshelves, reading descriptive panels, accessing extra content (audio and text) via QR codes, and viewing a video about the exhibit with English and Spanish subtitles.
The books can also be checked out at the venue with prior reservation.
