- Margherita: The Library of Queen Margherita of Savoy This permanent exhibition features the library of Queen Margherita of Savoy (1851-1926). Queen Margherita, renowned as an exemplary sovereign, possessed a vast collection of 13,560 volumes assembled over her lifetime. Reflecting her multifaceted interests in Italian and European literature, fine arts, poetry, music, and societal innovations, the collection offers insights into her intellectual curiosity and cultural passions. In 2022, the National Library, in collaboration with Culturalpe s.c., embarked on an ambitious project for the conservation, promotion, and accessibility of the collection. Following a meticulous inventory revision and computer cataloging, the entire collection was transferred to an exhibition hall, where it is displayed in a permanent setup. Visitors are guided through the exhibition via new narrative themes and multimedia aids, allowing them to explore the literary tastes and cultural influences that shaped Queen Margherita’s life.
- The Library Within the Library: The Culture of Giving Amidst the pandemic, the National University Library of Turin embarked on a project to highlight the books stored in its vaults within 1046 perforated boxes. This initiative led to the rediscovery of approximately 17,000 volumes and 11,000 booklets, many of which are ancient and culturally significant. Comprising 556 linear meters of books from diverse cultural backgrounds, the collection primarily consists of donations received after the devastating fire of 1904. The virtual exhibition, titled “The Culture of Giving,” was developed with the support of the General Directorate of Libraries and technical assistance from the ICCU Institute. It is part of a three-year funding initiative aimed at promoting Italian language and culture worldwide.
