Consultation of manuscripts, rare volumes, drawings and engravings

Consultation of manuscripts, incunabula, rare volumes, drawings and engravings takes place in the Manuscript and Rare Room, located on the second floor of the Institute.

Viewing of the material is by reservation: to this end, please send, in advance, an email to bu-to.manoscritti@cultura.gov.it, specifying the location of the documents of interest.

It is also necessary to come to the hall with an ID card showing that you are a professor, researcher or doctoral student: failing that, a letter of introduction signed by an academic giving an account of the research in progress(fac simile required) must be shown.

In the hall it is possible:

  • Consult manuscript and rare materials stored in the manuscript repository
  • Photograph by their own means – and according to the directions provided – the rare and valuable material
  • Consult materials stored on open shelves (directories, catalogs, inventories, etc.).
  • Receive assistance with bibliographic research on manuscript and rare materials

The last taking of documents from the manuscript repository is done within 30 minutes after the room is closed.
