The Library also acquires material for its collections through the form of gifts of individual documents or entire collections.
Gifts are accepted when their acquisition is consistent with the nature and purpose of the Library, enriches and complements collections already present, or serves to fill gaps found in the collections.
In the case of funds with special characteristics and of particular value, agreements may be made with the donor, setting out in detail the conditions for their preservation and usability.
At the sole discretion of the Library, gifts that are unrelated to or in conflict with the nature of the collections and the purposes of the Institute will not be accepted.
Extracts of articles contained in publications already in the library, photocopied documents, self-produced CD-ROMs, damaged books or books in poor condition will not be accepted under any circumstances.
Donations of incomplete collections of periodicals and other serial documentary material are not accepted. However, the Library reserves the right to acquire missing files of serial publications, to complete its collections, by selecting them from within proposed gift collections.
Bibliographic units received as gifts and acquired by the Library become the unavailable property of the State and cannot be claimed by the donor under any circumstances.
Each donation proposal should be sent to the Library exclusively by email to bu-to.doni@cultura.gov.it, attaching to the email a list of the volumes indicating, for each volume, author, title, year of publication and publisher.
The Library reserves the right not to acquire hand-delivered or mailed library materials into its collections in the absence of prior arrangements with the Institute.
Readers are invited to express wishes and opinions on bibliographic purchases in order to provide useful insights into user needs and preferences.
The Library carefully considers each suggestion, reserving the utmost discretion in accepting those deemed in line with the overall collection development policy, the thematic direction of the collections, and the availability of financial resources and space.
Such proposals can be sent to bu-to@cultura.gov.it, specifying author, title, year of publication and publisher of the volume(s) for which purchase is proposed.
