The National University Library of Turin (BNUTO in Italian) is a public library regulated by the General Directorate for Libraries and Copyright of Italian Ministry of Culture.
Its foundation dates back to 1723 by order of Victor Amedeus II of Savoy, who unified the three main book collections of the city: the Town library, the Royal University library and the Crown library that had been assembled by the Dukes of Savoy. He chose as location the new Royal University situated in via Po.
In 1957 the construction of the current venue in Piazza Carlo Alberto began. It was completed in 1973 and the whole collection was moved from via Po, where a fire had developed in 1904.
