According to the law 383/2000, the association pursues the following purposes:
- it promotes and supports all the initiatives that aim to overcame economic and social barriers in knowledge, education, culture and Italian language diffusion;
- it supports through the work of volunteers’ projects of consolidation and improvement of the services already available in the library;
- it studies and promotes initiatives and projects to improve overall the relationship between libraries and users, in order to get the libraries to be more and more rooted in the territory;
- it promotes the diffusion of bibliographical culture through the spreading of Ministry of Culture editorial production;
- it researches and conducts surveys on the libraries in the museums and in the decentralized offices of the Ministry and other institutions that may request it;
- it organizes and offers courses, workshops, meetings and cultural activities connected with the purpose of the association;
- it is organized and optimized in order to ensure the maximum participation to its activities;
- it improves and completes the collection of documents, books, photographs, periodicals and other materials of the library, also by facilitating donations and bequests;
- it improves cultural and technical instruments available in the library;
- it subsidizes the publication of catalogues and novel research on library heritage;
- it sponsors events in Italy and abroad to make the library well-known;
- it promotes and sponsors cultural activities such as expositions, workshops, congresses, literary awards, film and documentary productions, scholarships, in collaboration with public institutions, universities, foundations and other associations. Its aim is to add value to the library’s cultural and historical heritage.
