Friends of the Library

The association promotes many activities to ensure that the National University Library of Turin is valorised, well-known and well-functioning.

TheFriends of the Turin National University Library Association (ABNUT) pursues the following purposes under Law 383/2000:

  • promotes and supports all initiatives that can help overcome economic and social barriers in knowledge, education, and the dissemination of Italian culture and language;
  • supports with the work of its volunteers projects to consolidate and expand the Library’s existing services;
  • studies and proposes initiatives and/or projects to foster the overall improvement of the relationship between libraries and patrons to achieve an ever deeper rooting of libraries in their respective territories and areas;
  • Promotes the dissemination of bibliographic culture through the dissemination of the publishing production of the Ministry of Culture;
  • searches and censuses bibliographic collections in the peripheral offices and museum sites of the Ministry and other entities that request;
  • organizes and implements courses, seminars, meetings and other events consistent with the purposes of the association;
  • governs and regulates its organization so as to enable and encourage maximum membership and participation in its activities;
  • supplements and increases the Library’s collections of documents, books, photographs, periodicals and other materials, including by facilitating the instrument of donations and bequests;
  • improves the cultural and technical resources available to the Library;
  • subsidizes the publication of catalogs and unpublished research related to the Library’s holdings;
  • Patronizes events in Italy and abroad that can promote awareness of the Library;
  • promotes and organizes activities of a cultural nature such as exhibitions, conferences, seminars, literary and non-fiction prizes, films and documentaries, and scholarships, in cooperation with public bodies, universities, study centers, foundations and other associations. The purpose is to enhance the Library’s historical documentary heritage and any other activities that the Association recognizes as appropriate for membership purposes.
